This talk focuses on the fundamental role of play as an essential medium for the holistic development of children, through the practice of art therapy and its application, especially in educational contexts. We will explore how symbolic and artistic play allows children to express their thoughts, feelings, and emotions in a safe and creative way. From the theoretical perspective of relational psychotherapy, we will analyze the process of transforming the real into the imaginary, where children can represent their inner and outer worlds through symbolic narratives. Additionally, we will address the importance of the facilitator’s role in this process, offering strategies and practical reflections to foster an environment where play can flourish, thus helping children develop their capacity for play as a vital resource for self-expression.
